Queen Life span: The queen can reach 15 years of age under proper care.


Colony size: Colonies are usually small, containing no more than a few hundred workers.


Distribution: Primarily Eastern North America

Queen size: 8 mm

Worker size: Workers are as small as 3.5mm, making them one of the smallest species of Camponotus

Natural Habitat: Usually found nesting in wooded area’s. Nests are commonly found in small branches or sticks.

Mating Flights: Late May through June


Circadian Activity: Mostly active at night.

Queen Founding Method: Fully Claustral

Monogyne or Polygyne: Monogyne

Recommended Temperature: 77-80°F

Recommended Humidity:  30%-45%

Diet: Sugary liquids, fruit flies and other small insects.

Hibernation: Required  Fridge temperature will work for hibernation, November - March. (DO NOT HIBERNATE IN FREEZER)

Escape Barrier Methods: Fluon or olive Oil on a upside down surface create one of the best barriers.
